River: Denison River.
The Denison is an epic remote area trip that is very rarely run (I've only been able to find a record of a single club trip down here). It involves getting a small boat to take us accross a lake to walk in to the river (a day of James's infamous scrub bashing with rafts yay!). We then paddle for a couple of days along the denison and gordon rivers untill we eventualy make it to Sir Johns Falls where we will catch the stormbreaker yacht out.
Getting on river thursday 16th of December and catching the yacht off river on monday the 20th of December.
This is a remote area trip that will need to be paddled in packrafts or small 2 person rafts. This means that the trip is largely limited to guides and experianced paddlers and people who are game for walking with heavy gear. Both the club and I have some packrafts that can be utelised for the trip.
We get the yacht out from the end of our river which costs $230 per person. I will need to borrow/aquire a boat to take us accross the lake and will also organise all the food for the trip. I envisage overall costs including food, equipment, petrol and the yacht out to cost about $450 per person for the 5ish day mission. This will all need to be sorted prior to leaving on the trip as I need to pay the yacht upfront.
Things you must bring for the trip –
- Camping gear (sleeping bag and sleeping mat is the minimum required, toiletries you will also want)
- Heaps of warm clothes both for around camp and also for when we get to the end of the trip
- Standard rafting clothes, see this article for tips, neoprene socks are highly recommended) https://jamesbarnes.id.au/articles/what-to-bring-on-your-first-rafting-trip/
- Heaps of extra snacks.
- ALL GEAR MUST BE DOUBLE BAGGED IN GARBAGE BAGS TO BE PLACED IN DRY BAGS IN THE RAFTS. ALL GEAR ALSO MUST BE LIGHT AND COMPACT SO WE CAN CARRY IT IN.
I will provide food/catering and will also make sure we have tarps to cover everyone to sleep under.
Hit me up if you're keen on want any further info.
