Collingwood River

Grade: 2–3
Distance: 7 km
Time: 2.5 hours
Get in: Bills Creek
Get out: Confluence with the Franklin
Water level: Min 0.8m

From Bills creek down to the usual put in at the bridge over the Lyell Highway is narrow class 2 paddling. Not recommended at lower water levels. The Collingwood is generally a G2–3 with primarily pool drop style rapids that are quite straightforward irrespective of the water levels. There is one decent stopper in the middle of the section that could definitely flip a packraft if they don’t have the right technique. Min level around 0.8 (4+ hour trip) and the higher it is the faster the water.

This is a pretty section of river through typical west coast rainforest.
